This Privacy Notice is designed to help you understand how PDF Enhance ("we", "us," and "our") collects, uses, and shares your personal information and to help you understand and exercise your privacy rights.
We are committed to protecting and respecting your privacy and will use your personal information only after obtaining your consent to the collection and processing of your personal data on the terms specified below and in strict accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (the "GDPR"), the California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018 (the "CCPA"), California Privacy Rights Act (the "CPRA") and other applicable laws, regulations and guidelines.
This Privacy Notice applies to personal information processed by us in connection with the PDF Enhance mobile app ("App") and the website at pdfenhance.com (collectively, the "Services"). PDF Enhance provides document and image enhancement services. To make this Privacy Notice easier to read, our App, website, and related offerings are collectively called "Services."
We may revise this Privacy Notice from time to time in our sole discretion. If there are any material changes, we will notify you as required by applicable law. You will be deemed to have accepted the updated Privacy Notice if you continue to use our Services after the new Privacy Notice takes effect. We encourage you to review this Privacy Notice periodically.
The categories of personal information we collect depend on how you interact with our Services and the requirements of applicable law. We collect information that you provide to us, information we obtain automatically when you use our Services, and information from other sources, as described below.
(a) Documents and Images. When you use our App to enhance documents or images, you upload files from your device. We process your documents and images only to provide the enhancement service. We do not retain your document or image content after processing is complete; our systems are designed for transient processing and we do not use your documents for any other purpose.
(b) Interactive Features. We may collect personal information that you submit through our interactive features (e.g., contact forms, feedback). Any information you provide in public sections may be considered "public" as required by applicable law.
(c) Purchases. We may collect information associated with your purchases, including payment information. Payments are processed by third-party payment processors (e.g., Apple). We do not directly collect or store payment card information, but we may receive information associated with your purchase (e.g., billing details).
(d) Your Communications with Us. We may collect personal information, such as email address, when you request support or otherwise communicate with us.
We may collect certain information automatically when you use our Services, such as device information, browser or device identifiers, and information about how you use our Services (e.g., frequency, duration). We may use third-party analytics (e.g., Firebase Analytics). Analytics data we handle is general and anonymized where possible. For more on how data is managed by these tools, please refer to their respective privacy notices.
We may obtain information about you from other sources, including third-party services (e.g., if you access our Services through an app store or third-party login), to the extent permitted by your privacy settings.
We use your information to provide our Services, for administrative purposes, and as permitted by law, including:
We do not use your document or image content for marketing, advertising, or building profiles. If you have questions about marketing or wish to opt out of the use of your personal information for marketing, contact us as set forth in Section 16 below.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your document or image content with third parties except as necessary to provide the enhancement service, as described in Sections 5.1–5.3 below, and we do not retain that content after processing.
To provide document and image enhancement, we send your document and image content to Google Vertex AI (which uses the Google Gemini family of models), solely for the purpose of performing the enhancement you requested. Your content is sent to Google only to run the enhancement and is processed in accordance with Google's data processing terms.
We do not sell your content to Google or any other parties. Disclosure to this provider is limited to what is necessary to deliver the Services.
Your document and image content is not used to train or improve AI models. We use Google Vertex AI under commercial/paid terms. Under Google's standard terms for Vertex AI, customer data is not used to train or improve Google's generative models (including Gemini). For Google's official commitment on this, see: Google Cloud Service Specific Terms (Training Restriction) and Vertex AI and zero data retention. We do not use your data for AI model training and we require that your content be processed only for the purpose of providing the enhancement service.
Your documents and images are processed in a transient manner:
This transient processing and immediate deletion aligns with our commitment to minimal retention and your right to deletion, and meets applicable expectations for handling of user content in AI-powered services.
We may share other personal information (not your document or image content) with: (a) service providers that help us operate our Services (IT, hosting, payment processing, customer service); (b) business partners where necessary to provide a product or service you requested; (c) affiliates; and (d) as required by law or to protect rights, property, or safety. In the event of a merger, sale, or other asset transfer, your information may be transferred as permitted by law and/or contract. We may use additional third-party APIs and SDKs as part of our Services; for more information, contact us as set forth in Section 16 below.
You may have the right to: access, correct, or delete your personal information; request restriction of or object to processing; withdraw consent; and, where applicable, data portability. You may opt out of push notifications or certain data collection via your device settings. We do not respond to Do Not Track signals. To exercise your rights, contact us as set forth in Section 16 below. We will process requests in accordance with applicable laws.
We take steps to protect your information in accordance with this Privacy Notice. We use encryption (e.g., TLS) for data in transit. No system is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee the security of any information you provide. To the extent permitted by law, we do not accept liability for unauthorized disclosure. If we learn of a security breach, we may notify you electronically (e.g., by email or a notice on our Services).
Information we process may be transferred, processed, and stored in countries other than your own. We endeavor to safeguard your information consistent with applicable laws. Where we transfer data from the EU, we use appropriate safeguards (e.g., standard contractual clauses or another lawful basis). PDF Enhance may also disclose your personal information when required by law (e.g., to comply with legal process or lawful requests by authorities).
We retain personal information only as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this Privacy Notice, provide our Services, resolve disputes, and comply with applicable laws.
(a) Document and Image Content. We do not retain your document or image content after enhancement is complete. Processing is transient: your documents and images are held only in temporary memory during the enhancement and are immediately destroyed from memory once processing is complete. We do not store your documents or processed images on our or our processors' systems after the result is delivered to your device (see also Section 5.3).
(b) Other Personal Information. Account-related and other personal information may be retained as needed for the purposes above (e.g., support, legal, billing).
